Our FNSKU Labeling Process

QuickShipment's FNSKU labeling service is built for reliability. Every unit goes through a 4-step labeling process: label generation from your Seller Central account, printing on commercial-grade thermal printers at 300 DPI, application to each unit with verified placement (covering manufacturer barcodes), and a post-application barcode scan to confirm readability. If a label doesn't scan cleanly, it's replaced before moving to the next stage. This is the step most self-prep operations skip — and it directly explains why we maintain a 99.8% first-pass Amazon acceptance rate.

Relabeling Service

Need to remove old labels and apply new ones? Our relabeling service handles: removing existing FNSKU labels from prior shipments, replacing incorrect labels applied by a supplier, relabeling returned inventory for restocking, and updating labels when ASINs or conditions change. Relabeling is quoted as an add-on to standard prep.

What Changed on 1 January 2026

Before that date, a missing or unreadable label was an inconvenience: Amazon relabelled and billed you. Now it is a rejected shipment, or an accepted one you cannot claim against. Labeling stopped being a convenience and became a requirement.

That last row causes more failures than any specification. A label printed with page scaling on is dimensionally wrong, the quiet zone around the barcode shrinks, and the scanner reads it inconsistently — passing on a desk and failing on a moving belt.

The Five Ways Labels Fail

1. Old barcodes left visible. The scanner takes whichever code it sees first. A retail UPC next to an FNSKU is the most common cause of a unit being received against the wrong ASIN — and untangling that takes weeks.
2. Label on a curved surface. Bottles, tubes and cylinders distort the barcode. It has to go on a flat face or on the outer packaging.
3. Inkjet printing. Ink smudges in handling and bleeds in humidity. Thermal or laser only.
4. Label applied over a seam. The seam flexes, the barcode cracks along the fold.
5. Label hidden by prep material. A perfectly good FNSKU under an opaque poly bag or wrapped in bubble is unreadable. It must scan after prep is complete.

Our Four-Step Process

1. Generate — labels pulled from your Seller Central account so the FNSKU matches the shipment context. Wrong-file errors happen when labels are generated once and reused across shipments.
2. Print — commercial thermal printers at 300 DPI, no scaling, standardised roll size.
3. Apply — flat surface, correct margin, covering every other barcode on the unit.
4. Verify — every unit scanned after application and after prep material is on. Anything that does not read cleanly is relabelled before it moves on.

Step four is the one most self-prep operations skip, and it is the reason our first-pass FBA acceptance rate is 99.8%.

Relabeling Existing Inventory

Removing and replacing labels is one of our most common jobs. Typical reasons:

• Supplier applied the wrong FNSKU, or applied one for a different marketplace
• Inventory being repurposed to a different ASIN
• Returned units coming back for restock
• Labels damaged in transit or storage
• Removal orders being prepared for resale elsewhere

The work is removal, surface clean, reprint and reapply. Old labels that tear leave residue, and residue under a new label causes read failures — so the clean step matters more than it sounds.

Standalone labeling — where you only want labels applied and no other prep — is $2.00 per unit. That figure exists for small batches; at any real volume it is cheaper to run the units through prep.

Relabeling is quoted as an add-on because the effort varies: a clean peel-and-replace is quick, a heat-set supplier label on a textured surface is not.

Does Amazon still apply FNSKU labels for sellers?
No. FBA prep and item labeling services ended in the US on 1 January 2026. Units must arrive already labelled.

What size should an FNSKU label be?
Between 1 × 2 in and 2 × 3 in. Most sellers use 2 × 1 in. The barcode must be at least 0.25 in tall with 0.25 in clearance from the packaging edge.

Can I print FNSKU labels on an inkjet printer?
